ABOUT ZONE 4 - Phantoms/History

The Phantoms became a zone in 1987. A meeting was held at the Union Centre and the following were in attendance;

  • Bev Dale - Holiday Park
  • Bernie Gurash - Fairhaven
  • Bob Naconeschny - Montgomery
  • Leroy Evanson - Pacific Heights
  • Barry Quiring
  • Don Burfit - elected first commissioner for the Phantoms

It was during this time that the boys in Fairhaven were called the Phantoms. Wally
 McGowan and Terry Gusikoski coached them. They had won several
provincial titles as the Fairhaven Phantoms. The girls division in
 Pacific Heights were called the Sliders and were coached by Ted Lester
and Leroy Evanson. There was some debate and discussion as to the name
of the girl's team. Originally the Sliders was the name of choice
 however after further discussion it was decided that both the girls and
 the boys teams would be called Phantoms.
